For the Karen-Padaung ("Long-Ears") tribes the ears are the most sacred parts of the body. The ears of both sexes used to be elongated signifying beauty for women and strength for men. Today this tradition is continued by the women only, once they are married. At first the ear pieces are quite small, but as they grow older the ear pieces are replaced by larger ones.
