Bran Castle

Bran Castle, located in Transylvania near Brasov, is also known as Dracula's Castle as it was built for Vladimir the Impaler. Vladimir is the historical figure that Bram Stoker based his Dracula character on. There is no proof that Vladimir actually lived or visited here but the tourist industry is certain of it.

Vladimir was a real nasty piece of work. He got a reputation for slowly and painfully killing those who opposed him. One of his trademarks was to impale his victims, while still alive, on wooden spikes to serve as warnings. On an upside the crime rate was so low that you could leave your money in the street and no one would dare take it.
