The Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) is a time to honor family members who have passed on. Most of the people visit cemeteries to build altars and make offerings. Some of the older generations stay at the graves for the full 3 days of celebration to lament a loved one. I found the concept of a holiday to honor your ancestors really healthy. It was a mix of celebration and commiseration. It's a shame we don't have an equivalent holiday.
