Icelandic horses are totally unlike any other I've ever seen. They look and act differently than other horses. They are short, stout and can put up with the harsh winters. We also discovered that they are very friendly, don't like apples but do like peanuts.
The first Viking settlers brought horses to Iceland. Since their boats were small only a few horses considered the very best could be brought along. Since then, the import of farm animals into the country has been forbidden and the original Nordic horse has been preserved purebred in Iceland through the centuries.
