We were lucky enough to be invited by one of the locals to watch a turtle release in the Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge. The weather conditions have to be just right to give these little guys a fighting chance. Placed on the sand they instinctively head towards the water. They naturally follow the brightest light around, which should be the moon and not city lights. It is a big problem in some places when these guys show up in the discothèques.
