The ship breaking yards are an impressive sight. Old super freighters are run ashore at full speed and manually dismantled. These massive freighters cascade down the shore line. The one in front of us was like a black hole in the landscape. Thousands of workers covered it like ants ripping it apart with their bare hands. The sparks of welding torches dotted across its imposing shape.
These yards are an environmental/human rights nightmare. Many groups are trying to close them down. After some bad publicity the shipyards no longer allow foreigners entrance for fear of being shut down.
We met an owner of one of these shipyards though a friend of a friend. He arranged for a friend of his to pick us up and show us around. We only got a few shots off before word got out and his father called to stop us.
