Located in Riga Latvia, the freedom monument is dedicated "To Fatherland and Freedom". The three stars held by the Liberty Statue symbolize the regional parts of Latvia: Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Latgale.
During the Soviet era, it was said that the monument was a travel agency, because anyone who dared place flowers at its base got a free, one-way ticket to faraway Siberia. Although meant as a joke, it was not entirely untrue. People still bring flowers to the monument today.
